Tucked away at the foot of the Quantock Hills, this cute beach is a stunning and little-known gem.
This peaceful bay is a mix of pebbles, sand, shingle and rocky outcrops. What makes it extra special are the two beautiful waterfalls that tumble down the cliffs straight onto the beach.
The unique rock formations here make this hidden gem one of Somerset’s most fascinating coastal spots.
It’s also a popular place for fossil hunters, with plenty of finds to be discovered along the foreshore or hidden in the cliff edges.
The highlight of this beach is without doubt the pair of waterfalls. Some might say they aren’t ‘true’ waterfalls because of the smaller flow, but most visitors agree they deserve their name, the St Audries waterfalls.
After heavy rain, the falls are even more dramatic, turning this already pretty bay into something truly magical.
Visitors should keep an eye on tide times though, as the waterfalls can only be reached when the tide is out.
The water of the Bristol Channel here can look cloudy, and the sand close to the shoreline is sometimes muddy, but that doesn’t put people off enjoying a dip.
One happy visitor wrote: "Be warned though, it can be tricky to get down if you have a pushchair or wheelchair because of the steps. Definitely worth the effort."
Another added their praise, saying: "Great place to escape everyday life. Lovely location, well worth a visit."
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
