Hidden off the coast of Scotland, and the largest of the Inner Hebrides, is Britain’s own version of Iceland.
The Isle of Skye is famous for its wild, volcanic style landscapes and beautiful waterfalls that look as if they belong in a fantasy film.
The island stretches for around 50 miles and was highlighted as one of the UK’s must visit places by TikTok user Ryan Young, known as @theryanyoung_.
In a video on the platform, the travel expert listed it beside Durdle Door in Dorset, Portmeirion in Wales, The Dark Hedges in Northern Ireland and Luskentyre Beach on the Isle of Harris.
“Here are five must visit places in the UK,” Ryan said in the clip. “Forget the usual tourist traps, here are some places that will blow your mind.
“First up are the Fairy Pools in Scotland. These incredibly blue pools look straight out of a fantasy movie, and yes, you can swim in them if you can handle the cold.”
One of Skye’s best known sights is the Old Man of Storr on the Trotternish Ridge, with its striking rock formations, sharp pinnacles and breathtaking views across the island’s dramatic landscape.
Also unmissable is the Quiraing, a remarkable area of cliffs, green slopes and curious rock towers that look almost otherworldly.
The island is home to plenty of wildlife too, including seals, red deer, golden eagles and even otters.
But when you want a rest from the scenery, the animals and the amazing views, there is a lovely place to unwind.
Portree is Skye’s pretty capital, where you can enjoy colourful harbour buildings and snug pubs before heading out to explore Dunvegan Castle, the historic home of the well known MacLeod clan.
One TripAdvisor review said: “Full of natural beauty. Best place to visit in Scotland, we will visit Isle of Skye again.”

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
