Autumn is the perfect time to plan a weekend escape to relax and recharge as the days get shorter and the busy Christmas season draws closer.
While many of the UK’s prettiest villages are crowded with tourists in summer, by autumn they become peaceful, quiet, and even more charming.
As the new season approaches, few places capture that feeling better than this place...
With its endless shades of orange, yellow, and red, it’s an ideal spot to take a break from city life, breathe in the fresh woodland air, and unwind among the trees.
Travel experts at Restless even named it Europe’s best national park for an autumn getaway.
They explained: “From mighty oaks to delicate birches and golden bracken, the New Forest is Europe’s best national park and a magical place to see stunning autumn colours.”
They also highlighted Denny Wood, one of the area’s oldest beech woodlands, as a must-visit spot for anyone exploring the region.
And just 20 minutes away, there’s another gem waiting to be discovered.
A short drive brings you to a picturesque village that captures all the warmth and beauty of the New Forest and makes the perfect base for exploring the area’s scenic trails and woodlands.
Brockenhurst, which was named ‘Britain’s Most Beautiful Place to Live’ by Leaders Estate Agents, is often described as a “true New Forest village” filled with charm, history, and character.
A spokesperson for Leaders said: “The area is home to ponies, deer, donkeys, and cows – all known to wander through the main street. Locals enjoy having the New Forest right on their doorstep, along with inviting pubs and stunning views in every direction.”
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
