This lovely seaside town has been compared to the Cotswolds by some visitors, but many say it’s even better thanks to its amazing coastal views.
Found in the east of England, it’s a popular escape for people travelling from London.
A user described the town as “like the Cotswolds but on the coast.” Suffolk Coastal Escapes adds: “This hidden gem is one of the most iconic seaside towns in Suffolk, full of charm, character and classic coastal pleasures.”
“Whether you’re coming for a day out or staying longer, Southwold has a mix of beautiful beaches, independent shops, great places to eat and that calm Suffolk feel.”
The Cotswolds is famous for its historic villages and cute English style, and it often gets packed with both UK visitors and people visiting from abroad.
Southwold has that same peaceful charm, but it also comes with an extra treat. Instead of just countryside, it has a gorgeous stretch of coastline as well.
One spot you shouldn’t miss while you’re there is Southwold Pier. A Tripadvisor write-up says: “If one picture on a postcard could sum up an idyllic English seaside destination it would have to be Southwold Pier.”

Forbes even called Suffolk “the new Cotswolds.” Just 90 minutes from London, this stretch of coastline has loads to offer but is usually quieter than many other well-known seaside spots.
