Waterfall selfies, quick dips in rivers and early morning swims in the sea are everywhere right now.
Wild swimming has clearly become a favourite outdoor activity for many people. This popular activity, also called open water swimming, means swimming in natural places like rivers, coves, the sea or under waterfalls, often for the refreshing feel of cold water.
Wales is full of amazing wild swimming spots, as well as organised swims in lakes, rivers and along the coast.

One of our top picks is a mountain waterfall in Eryri National Park, also known as Snowdonia, which you can only reach by walking uphill, making it feel extra special.
To enjoy a chilly swim surrounded by beautiful scenery, you will need to hike the Watkin Path, also called Llwybr Watkin.
This route is tough but rewarding and leads towards the summit of Yr Wyddfa, with a total climb of 1,025 metres.
This path is rougher and quieter than others, with rocky views and natural sights such as waterfalls and deep pools. It is best suited to experienced walkers who are fit and confident with map reading.
The route includes steep climbs, uneven ground and some scrambling along the way. You will also need to carry your swimming kit, so a large backpack is useful, along with warm clothes to put on after your swim.
The walk begins at Pont Bethania Car Park in Nant Gwynant. You can also use the Sherpa’r Wyddfa bus service, which is a handy way to reach the start of the path.
The Watkin Path is well connected, with travel links from places such as Porthmadog, Caernarfon, Betws y Coed and Bangor.
To get to the waterfall, start at the car park, cross the road and follow it briefly, turning just before Caffi Gwynant.
This cosy cafe is a great place to grab a coffee and cake after your swim. Remember to bring a small rubbish bag so nothing is left behind on the mountain.
Climb the stone steps and follow the Watkin Path uphill through the woodland. After about 30 minutes of walking, you will begin to hear and then see the waterfall coming into view.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
