The stunning UK beach rated 5 stars that remains almost tourist-free

A secluded beach with soft white sand and bright turquoise waters has been called a “bucket list destination” that feels just like being in “Thailand”.

This hidden gem, found on the Ardnamurchan peninsula in Scotland, has wowed visitors so much it has been given a flawless score of 5.

Famous for its stunning scenery, the beach is also a great spot for wildlife.

Butterflies and dragonflies drift over the bay, seabirds nest in the cliffs, and lucky visitors might even spot otters searching for food along the shore.

Although the sea can be chilly, the sparkling blue water is worth braving, with plenty of rock pools around the edges to explore.

One reviewer on Google said: “Breathtaking, I had the beach to myself too. The single track road for 80 minutes is mesmerising, I recommend this beach highly.

Free parking too, a great place to take a dip or chill with a picnic. I felt like I was back in Thailand again. Will be returning.”

It is a popular place for long walks, beach picnics and quiet days by the sea, earning an incredible five out of five stars on Google reviews and 4.8 out of five on Tripadvisor.

Another visitor described it as “one of the most beautiful beaches” they had ever seen, giving it the top score of 5/5.

They wrote: “Amazing white sandy beach with clear turquoise chilly water. Definitely worth a visit as one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever been to.”

One five star review explained: “The drive along the single track road is long, very long (and fun in some places… think Top Gear roads)….. the scenery makes up for the long drive.

There’s a couple of places to stop off along the way for photo opportunities, and it’s worth doing. Honestly!”

Getting to Sanna Bay takes some effort, with visitors driving along a scenic route before walking over sandy dunes. The bay sits at the far end of one of the small roads stretching west from Kilchoan.

The journey includes a narrow single-lane road that winds for around 20 miles, taking travellers through woodland and open stretches of the Ardnamurchan peninsula.

One reviewer said: “There’s a car park at the end of the long winding road, which has a foot track down to the beach.”

But they also warned that the walk might be “unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems” due to the uneven path down to the sands.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
