If you’re dreaming of a quiet escape to enjoy the calm of early autumn, this hidden gem in Gwynedd is the perfect choice.
This charming Welsh seaside village, home to fewer than 3,000 people, is a true hidden treasure.
History lovers will enjoy the fascinating maritime museum, which tells the story of it's close connection to the sea, a bond so strong that the village’s crest proudly features three herrings.
Take a peaceful walk along the coast to Porthdinllaen and you’ll find a postcard-perfect fishing village hidden beneath the cliffs. A stop at the Ty Coch Inn, a much-loved pub right on the beach, is a must according to North Wales Live.
With glowing five-star reviews, visitors have called it “unmissable” and even “one of the best pubs in the world.”
Originally built in 1823 as a vicarage, Ty Coch became an inn in 1842 to serve the local shipbuilders working on the coast.
Its location offers stunning views stretching out towards Yr Eifl and Eryri (Snowdonia), making it one of the most scenic pubs in Wales.
While locals can drive there, visitors are encouraged to walk across the sand to reach it, a journey that’s every bit as enjoyable as the first sip of a local ale.
For those after a more active adventure after their seaside stroll, Nefyn has just the thing.
Yr Eifl, a group of three mountain peaks on the Llŷn Peninsula, offers breathtaking views over the sea, with visibility stretching all the way to the Isle of Man on clear days.
The central peak, Tre’r Ceiri, is home to one of the best-preserved Iron Age hillforts in Britain. Dating back to around 400 BC, it still has visible roundhouses, gateways and stone walls.
Climbing Yr Eifl takes about three hours and is considered a challenging route, but for anyone who makes it to the top, the incredible scenery makes every step worthwhile.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
