The ‘tropical’ UK beach visitors say is even better than the Caribbean

The UK is home to some truly magical beaches, and one in Cornwall has even been called "better than the Caribbean".

The praise is for this hidden beach in St Ives, which is known for its turquoise waters and soft white sand.

A clip shared on Instagram by beautiful.cornwall showed off the spot, with one user, trouper1green, commenting: "Fgs it’s gorgeous. I don’t want to go to the Caribbean. It’s never interested me at all."

Not everyone was completely impressed though. One viewer joked about what they saw in the video, writing: "Still have to see a fricking Ford Transit van. Brits are obsessed with goddamn vans."

According to Visit Cornwall, the beach is a "classic crescent of golden sand, clear azure sea and waving palm trees; with glorious views". It has also received both the Seaside Award and the Blue Flag, with plenty of cafés, shops, art galleries and restaurants nearby.

Among those restaurants is one that has been especially praised online.

One visitor shared their recommendation: "Porthminster Beach Café does amazing fish and chips (a bit pricier than others but worth it). The smoked haddock fish chowder is next level good."

They went on to say: "They have a higher end restaurant also but the beach bar is fab. Get the positioning right and you can get a photo that looks like you’re in the tropics!"

Another happy customer added: "Book the Porthminster café and ask for a window or outside table. [It's] worth it, both food and view."

Tripadvisor also praises the café, saying: "Perched right on the beach, the café's white art deco building is perfectly positioned to capture picture postcard views across St Ives Bay."

The review continues: "The food expresses a similar affinity with its surroundings, from the freshest seafood straight from the boat, to herbs and vegetables grown in the restaurant’s own adjacent garden plot."

The beach itself is described as "lovely", with a stretch of golden sand that is always popular with families.

Tripadvisor calls it a "favourite place for a family outing", with the added bonus of incredible views across the bay to Godrevy Lighthouse in the distance.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
