The ‘UK’s Amalfi Coast’ with vibrant buildings and a sandy beach to rival Italy’s shoreline

This town in Kent has been called the UK's version of the Amalfi Coast, and it’s easy to see why, with its lovely harbour, sandy beach, and colourful buildings.

A charming seaside town in Kent often gets compared to Italy’s Amalfi Coast because of its bright buildings, pretty harbour, and great views. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Italy, it’s definitely worth a look.

With soft golden sand and lovely walks along the coast, Ramsgate is perfect for people who love to explore and be outdoors.

It also enjoys some of the sunniest weather in the UK, so it’s no surprise that it has been a favourite for British holidaymakers for years.

Ramsgate has everything you’d expect from a traditional seaside town, including fish and chip shops, arcades, ice cream stalls, and cosy pubs all along the front.

A big highlight is the Royal Harbour. It’s the only harbour in the UK with that title, which was given after King George IV visited and was really impressed.

The harbour is lined with bright, colourful buildings that remind people of Positano in Italy, with its pretty pastel homes set against green hills, according to the Mirror.

Rows of boats bobbing in the water at Ramsgate’s harbour are a lovely sight too, and it's easy to see why people think of Italy when they see it.

Ramsgate Main Sands is another favourite, especially when the sun’s out. It’s a Blue Flag beach, close to shops and restaurants, with toilets, parking and deckchairs you can hire.

If you’re bringing a dog, remember they’re not allowed on the beach between 1 May and 30 September. Lifeguards will be on duty from 10am to 6pm daily between 13 July and 7 September.

If you like adventure, there’s loads to try, from scuba diving and paddleboarding to kayaking, boat trips and even kitesurfing. If you prefer dry land, you can go birdwatching, try golf, or visit a local sports centre.

There are also loads of lovely walks and cycle routes in the area. Whether you want a gentle stroll or a tougher hike, there’s something for everyone, and you can always finish with fish and chips as a reward!

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
