Trendy UK seaside town ranked among the country’s ‘prettiest and quirkiest’

Tynemouth, in Tyne and Wear, England, is well known for its three golden beaches, dramatic cliffs, and historic sites, with lovely Georgian buildings by the sea.

Tynemouth is a beautiful seaside town in the north of England, where the River Tyne flows into the sea. It’s famous for its old castle that sits high on white cliffs, looking out over the North Sea.

This amazing place has three long sandy beaches, rocky coastlines, and lots of history. You’ll also spot elegant Georgian buildings along the seafront.

Time Out named Tynemouth “Britain’s coolest seaside town” because of its creative and fun vibe. It’s also been called one of the prettiest and quirkiest coastal spots in the country.

The Sunday Times also chose it as one of England’s “best places to live”, saying it has a relaxed, artistic feel. Its interesting past and lovely views keep drawing in artists, writers and musicians.

One reason people love visiting Tynemouth is how easy it is to get to. You can take a quick 25-minute metro ride from Newcastle or reach it from London in about three hours by train.

When you arrive, the first place to check out is the busy market right next to the station, where you’ll find over 150 stalls selling all sorts of things.

The market is held inside the old Victorian railway station, so it’s a great place to wander, even if the weather isn’t perfect.

One of the top sights in Tynemouth is the grand Castle and Priory, which has amazing views and a long history going back 2,000 years to the Iron Age.

Just below the castle is King Edward’s Bay, a peaceful beach surrounded by cliffs. It’s the perfect place to relax on a sunny day.

Only about 10 minutes from the metro station is Longsands Beach, with Long Sands North Beach nearby. There’s also a family park full of fun things to do, plus the local aquarium.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
