The UK’s best hidden waterfall is just 90 minutes from Greater Manchester

There is something special about a waterfall, from the way the water crashes down to the calming sound it makes as it flows.

New research has now revealed the best hidden waterfalls in the UK, and the number one spot is only a 90 minute drive from Greater Manchester.

This hidden gem in North Wales has been named the UK’s best hidden waterfall by Sally’s Cottages.

The team looked at TikTok data to find beautiful waterfall walks that have not been widely shared on social media.

Hidden within Gwydir Forest on the northern edge of Snowdonia, also known as Eryri National Park, Rhaeadr y Parc Mawr, which translates to Grey Mare’s Tail, features two lovely waterfalls. Each one drops around 40 feet into a shallow pool below.

The falls are only a short walk from the well known Tu Hwnt I’r Bont tearooms, making it easy to reward yourself with tea and cake afterwards.

Carbost Burn on the Isle of Skye in Scotland took second place. It is a striking waterfall set among green hills, with a bright blue pool at the bottom.

In third place was Ritson’s Force in the Lake District. These waterfalls sit in the Mosedale Valley and can be reached from the back of the Wasdale Head Inn beer garden by crossing a stone bridge and walking through fields and woodland.

A number of other waterfalls within a three hour drive of Greater Manchester also featured on the list, including East Gill Force in North Yorkshire, Brontë Waterfall in West Yorkshire and Aira Force in the Lake District.
