Two stunning Scottish spots ranked among the top places to visit in the UK

Two beautiful places in Scotland have been named among the best spots to visit in the UK, thanks to their amazing views, history, and charm.

Travel experts at Lonely Planet have picked their top 11 must-see places around Britain – and both Edinburgh and the Scottish islands made the list.

These Scottish locations stood out not just for their beauty, but also for their culture and history. Each place was chosen for its unique character and rich background.

The guide said: “From the crashing waves at the White Cliffs of Dover to the towering Scottish Highlands, the UK is a land full of wild and beautiful places.

"But beyond the scenery, the country has a deep cultural story, with lots to discover in music, books, food, and more.”

They also said: “There’s loads to see and do. Think about what you enjoy and plan ahead – here are the top places to visit in the UK.”

Edinburgh got a big thumbs up in the latest guide, called the “best for amazing views and magical bookshops.”

The city was described as “one of the most grand and beautiful places in Europe,” thanks to its “dreamy towers, layered streets, and a castle on the hill.”

The Scottish Islands were picked as “best for wild scenery and whisky tours,” and called one of the most “magical experiences” in the UK. From steep mountains to quiet seaside paths, each island has its own special charm.

Lonely Planet recommends starting with the Isle of Arran, often called “Scotland in Miniature.” It has rough hills in the north and soft, green fields in the south – showing off a bit of everything Scotland has to offer.
