As the festive season approaches, towns and cities across the UK are beginning to glow with twinkling lights, giant Christmas trees and bright decorations.
Among them is one place that has caught the eye of travel experts for its clear fairy tale charm.
Ranked fifth in a list of the nation’s best Christmas breaks, this magical storybook destination still stands out with its cosy streets, warm lights and nostalgic winter feel.

Even though it did not take the number one spot, its enchanting atmosphere makes it a must see for anyone wanting a truly heartwarming Christmas getaway. You can find out more about this magical place below.
According to travel experts at TransPennine Express, York came in a solid fifth place out of the 10 UK areas included. Explaining their choice, the train company said: "Few places do Christmas quite like York."
"The city becomes a magical storybook destination during the festive season, earning its place as one of the best places to spend Christmas in the UK.
With its medieval streets glowing with fairy lights and market stalls set up in historic squares, the city feels as if it has stepped straight out of a Dickens story."

"Begin your trip at St Helen’s Square under the huge Christmas tree, then wander through St Nicholas Fair.
From carol singers to handmade gifts, York encourages visitors to slow down and soak up the magic, whether you are planning a winter day out or a longer Christmas break."
The experts also recommend visiting St Nicholas Fair, where you can stroll past stalls selling local crafts and festive treats, and St Helen’s Square, home to the city’s sparkling Christmas tree and lively holiday atmosphere.
York’s award winning Christmas Market began on November 13 and will run until December 21, 2025. Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square will be filled with Alpine style chalets, local crafts, artisan gifts and seasonal foods, reported Visit York.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
