Underrated seaside town with a stunning beach serving the UK’s best fish and chips

Earlier this year, Fry Magazine revealed its list of the best fish and chip shops and restaurants across the UK, and one of them is found in one of the prettiest seaside towns around.

This lovely coastal spot in Norfolk attracts visitors every summer, thanks to its wide sandy beach and rows of colourful beach huts.

Even so, this hidden gem next to the sea remains peaceful and relaxing throughout the year for anyone wanting a quiet seaside break.

One place to make the top list was the much loved French’s Fish Shop, which has been serving locals and visitors since 1921.

Only venues scoring 96 per cent or higher from judges were included, and this popular chippy proudly made the cut.

The fish and chip shop also benefits from stunning views across the Norfolk coast, giving customers something special to enjoy while they eat.

One TripAdvisor reviewer said the food was, in their view, among the best fish and chips in North Norfolk.

One happy customer wrote: "What more can be said that has not already been mentioned? These are the best fish and chips I have ever eaten and the quality is always spot on. It is easy to see why the queue is often so long during busy holiday periods."

Another visitor said: "This was the best fish and chips we had enjoyed in ages. The batter was crunchy and full of flavour, and the cod tasted fresh and delicious.

Even though the queue was long, it moved quickly and staff worked hard to serve everyone. It was well worth the wait."

Beyond the food, Wells is also well known for its beautiful beach, which is lined with a long stretch of bright and eye catching beach huts.

Behind the huts sits a peaceful pine woodland that is perfect for walks and spotting wildlife away from the shore.

Dogs are welcome on Wells beach all year round, but barbeques, fires, stoves and sky lanterns are not allowed.

One recent visitor said the beach has everything you could want from a classic English seaside spot.

They added: "There is a lovely cafe and even a Joules shop nearby. The toilets are very clean, and you can reach the beach by steps or a gentle slope. The sand is soft and golden, with a stunning line of beach huts set against the pine forest."

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
