Unexpected landmark crowned ‘prettiest’ in the country, beating Edinburgh, Dover and Bath

The UK has lots of old buildings and amazing natural views, but a new list has named a surprising place as the prettiest landmark in the country.

With summer in full swing, tourists from all over the world are coming to see the UK’s historic and beautiful sights. Whether you like busy cities or peaceful countryside, the UK has castles, nature reserves and cool buildings to explore.

If you’re not sure where to go, one unexpected landmark has just been picked as the "prettiest" in the UK. Adobe Express did a big study to find the most picture-worthy places around the country.

They looked at how many people posted photos on Tripadvisor, Instagram and TikTok, as well as how often people searched for the landmarks online to help choose the winner.

London took the top three spots for the prettiest landmarks, beating famous places like Edinburgh Castle and the Lake District. But the number one place was Big Ben.

Big Ben, also called the Great Bell of the Great Clock of Westminster, is at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London.

The name was first used just for the huge bell inside the clock tower, which weighs over 13 tons, but now most people use it to mean the whole tower, says Visit London.

The clock was designed by two architects named Augustus Pugin and Charles Barry. Work on the building started in 1843 and was finished in 1859.

A spokesperson for UK Parliament said, “Big Ben has captured the imagination of the country, and the world. The clock tower has appeared in paintings, books, films and TV. From kids’ stories to action films, from Monet to modern art, Big Ben has something for everyone.”
