Ancient mystical landmark discovered in magical hidden village

While Stonehenge and Avebury in Wiltshire are major tourist destinations, attracting over 1.5 million visitors a year with their famous stone circles, there's a lesser-known treasure not far from Bristol.

This "magical" hidden village in the UK is home to an ancient and mystical landmark that remains surprisingly off the radar for many.

Just a 25-minute drive from the busy city of Bristol, you'll find this hidden gem in North East Somerset; an incredible piece of history that hasn't been given as much attention as its famous counterparts.

If you're not driving, you can take the 672 bus, which will get you directly to the village in around 50 minutes, or you could take the 376 bus to Pensford and enjoy a pleasant walk from there.

According to English Heritage, Stanton Drew is home to the third-largest collection of prehistoric standing stones in England, with 26 stones still standing proudly today.

Despite its importance, this ancient site doesn’t get nearly as much attention as places like Stonehenge, and remains "surprisingly little known," according to English Heritage.

From the stone circles, you can follow well-marked paths provided by the local parish council, which wind through scenic fields by the River Chew on a peaceful five-mile walk.

In spring, the riverbank meadows near Stanton Drew are full of dandelions and buttercups, and you might even spot sheep grazing on the nearby hills.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
