A lovely seaside village only a few minutes from the well-known Northumberland town of Alnwick has been praised by visitors for its peaceful beach, quirky independent shops, and wide range of wildlife.
This place sits inside one of the county’s official Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and its dog-friendly beach is often the place people love most when they visit.
For anyone who enjoys being outdoors, there are walks along St Oswald’s Way and the Northumberland Coast Path, where you can spot all sorts of wildlife.
The sand dunes beside the beach are ideal for bird watching, and the area has even appeared on Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes.
Alnmouth has also been brought to life on television as the fictional village of Mardle in the ITV crime series Vera.
Those who enjoy history can visit the Ferryman’s Hut in Alnmouth, which is known as the smallest museum in Northumberland.
The Old School Gallery, described as a “hidden treasure” and set inside a restored 1872 school building, displays fine art, prints, and illustrations.
Visitors have been full of praise for how calm the beach feels, with one person writing on TripAdvisor: “Really lovely beach! It was nice and quiet when we went so it felt very peaceful. Great place for a relaxing day out. Fun for paddling too!”
Another said: “Pretty and peaceful beach. A great place for a long walk on the sand and a wander through the village. I always enjoy coming back!”
A third visitor called it an “amazing stretch of beach”, adding: “You can take a refreshing walk along the sands. There are brilliant birds among the rocks at one end.”
Someone else shared: “We recently stayed in Alnmouth for a week. We walked our dog every day on Alnmouth beach, and it is honestly stunning.
It’s one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever visited, with soft sand and incredible scenery. It’s perfect for dog walking and is dog friendly all year round.”

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
