Charming UK coastal town with two miles of beaches only 90 minutes from London

If you want to enjoy the British seaside, this charming coastal town should be on your list.

Famous for its beautiful shoreline, this spot is a favourite for those after a sunny day by the sea. While Kent has plenty of well-known beach towns like Whitstable, this one is often missed despite its charm.

This place is a classic British seaside resort that visitors love for its traditional charm. Just 90 minutes from London by train, it’s an easy and straightforward trip thanks to regular services from the capital.

One happy visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “Lovely beach! Calm, quiet and well cared for. Beautiful gardens along the front before you reach the pebbles.

“Walk further along the coast and you’ll find almost private beach areas thanks to the sea defences. A really lovely area.”

Stretching for two miles, the beach offers both sand and shingle, colourful beach huts, seafront gardens, a pier, and a bandstand.

The pier, once among the longest in the UK but later shortened, fell into disrepair for a while. However, after the demolition of its 1970s pavilion, it has been revived and is now thriving again, according to Great British Life.

Visit Canterbury notes: “Herne Bay offers plenty to see and do all year round. The iconic 80ft Victorian clock tower overlooks the seafront, while Waltrop Gardens is filled with beautiful flowers, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sea views with a picnic.

“The bright and cheerful pier is a highlight for a family day out, with old-fashioned fairground rides, a helter-skelter, quirky retail huts, and food stalls, all with stunning sea views.”

Herne Bay isn’t just about the beach, though. It’s also well known for its open green spaces. A must-visit for nature lovers is Herne Bay Memorial Park, the town centre’s biggest open space.

With formal gardens, mature trees, a peaceful lake, and various sports facilities, it’s a favourite spot for locals and visitors to enjoy the outdoors.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
