A traditional Christmas market and late-night shopping event is returning to one of the UK’s most popular counties this December.
Families will be spoiled for choice as the festive season unfolds in this stunning spot, with something for everyone to enjoy.
While Devon and Cornwall are usually the top summer destinations, autumn and winter bring a quieter charm to the South West.

Instead of sunbathing on the beach, visitors can soak up the festive spirit at local Christmas markets.
In the town of Tavistock, surrounded by rolling moorland, streets fill with people for its famous Dickensian Evening, a magical event that takes you back in time as shopkeepers dress in Victorian costumes and spread Christmas cheer.
Tavistock’s historic Pannier Market bursts into life with festive scents, glittering lights, and stalls packed with handmade gifts and seasonal treats.
Local traders sell everything from crafts to decorations, making it the perfect place to find unique presents.
The market itself has been running since 1105, giving it a rich history that adds to the charm.
The stallholders are known for their friendly nature and love to chat about their goods, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all

The town’s independent shops also join in the fun, staying open late on Friday, December 5, 2025, when the Dickensian Evening takes place.
Visitors can explore the cobbled streets, browse the shops, and take in the festive sights.
According to Visit Tavistock, “the smell of roasting chestnuts fills the air, bringing excitement to both children and adults. The shops stay open late, and the whole town buzzes with laughter and music.”
As visitors stroll through the streets, they’ll find entertainers on every corner, including stilt walkers, choirs, musicians, and performers. For children, there’s a merry-go-round, fairground treats, and candyfloss to make the evening even more magical.
The high street glows under a canopy of twinkling lights, and one of the highlights of the season is the Annual Christmas Tree Festival at the Parish Church of St Eustachius, where beautifully decorated trees fill the historic space.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
