If you are looking for a day out that feels truly special, this village has everything you could hope for.
The standout treasure in Northumberland is its Roman Town, one of the most important archaeological sites in the country and the northernmost town of the Roman Empire.
Found just a mile from the village, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, with real Roman streets you can walk along and a museum filled with items from the famous Corbridge Hoard, a collection of 2nd century armour, tools and personal belongings discovered nearby.
Just a short distance away is Hadrian’s Wall, a reminder of Corbridge’s key role in Roman Britain. But Corbridge is far from being stuck in history.
You can wander between artisan bakeries, a traditional grocer, florists, fashion boutiques, jewellers and beautifully styled homeware shops, all within easy walking distance.
Forum Books, set inside a beautifully converted Methodist Chapel complete with its original pulpit, is worth visiting all on its own.
If you are feeling hungry, Corbridge has plenty of places to eat. From cosy cafés ideal for a relaxed lunch to a deli, wine bar, brilliant gastropubs and a mix of Italian, Indian and English restaurants, it is easy to turn a simple day visit into a full evening out.

Next to the impressive St Andrew’s Church is The Pele Tower (not linked to the Brazilian footballer), which has been turned into a wonderful pub.
St Andrew’s itself is one of Britain’s oldest churches, with Saxon roots going back to the 7th century. The bridge over the River Tyne, the oldest on the river, offers lovely opportunities for riverside walks.
For anyone wanting to explore a little more, Aydon Castle is close by, and the surrounding moorland and countryside make Corbridge a perfect starting point for cycling and hiking adventures.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
