Two road trip fans and regular travellers, who share their adventures online as Mr and Mrs D Adventures, are encouraging everyone in the UK to try Scotland’s breathtaking NC500.

In a video, they said it “kills” them that people spend their whole lives in the UK without ever driving this beautiful road.

The circular route covers a huge section of Scotland, beginning and ending in Inverness, and stretches an impressive 820 kilometres past some of the most stunning places in the country.

The journey can be completed in five days, but the experts say it is far better to take a week to ten days so you can enjoy all the incredible sights along the way.

If you cannot manage the full loop, the West Coast is where you will find the very best views.

From peaceful fishing villages and long white sandy beaches to historic castles and incredible sea views, this route is one you should not skip.

Highlights include the Duncansby Stacks, which are huge rock pillars rising from the water, and Ardvreck Castle, which sits beside a beautiful loch and a lovely little beach.

You can also drive across Kylesku Bridge as part of the route and admire the stunning Scottish landscape spreading out on either side of you.

In summer, the route can become quite busy, so the best times to visit are spring and autumn. Just keep in mind that the weather can change very quickly.

If you plan to complete the full loop, it is best to drive it anti clockwise and make sure you feel confident behind the wheel.

Although the scenery is amazing, some of the roads are single track, so you need to be ready to reverse if another vehicle comes towards you.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
