If you fancy topping up your tan while the sun’s shining, the UK’s best hidden seaside gems have just been revealed, and a Welsh beach has claimed the number one spot.
Just south of Holyhead sits this hidden gem, which a new study has praised as one of the ‘most prestigious’ beaches on Anglesey.
With its ‘crystal clear waters’ and peaceful vibe, it’s the kind of place where you don’t have to squeeze in between crowds of holidaymakers to find a patch of sand.
The research, which looked at Met Office data, local attractions and social media comments across more than 250 coastal towns, described Trearddur Bay as the ‘perfect playground for water sports fans with kayak and paddleboard hire available.’
The bay was awarded an attraction score of two and a top Instagram score of 10, while its sunshine and rainfall ratings came in at seven and eight.
Sharing second place, Goodrington and Salcombe Regis in Devon were also highlighted, and with 49 local attractions, they scored highest of all for things to do.
Just 38 minutes by train from London, Lydd-on-Sea in Kent took joint third spot alongside Mwnt in Ceredigion, Wales, which both earned a sunshine score of seven. Time to grab the sun cream?
If you’re heading that way, Trearddur Bay isn’t the only beach worth exploring – nearby Porth Diana Beach is a favourite for rock pooling.
When it’s time for food, you can choose from Ocean’s Edge Restaurant, The Driftwood Bar & Restaurant or the Sea Shanty Café.
The Sea Shanty sits right by the beach and serves up plenty of fresh seafood, from scallops and moules frites to Thai fish cakes and traditional cod.
Walkers can take on the Anglesey Coastal Path, a stunning 135-mile route that circles the island.
The Trearddur Bay stretch has even been called the ‘most attractive’ part of the walk, passing an Iron Age hillfort, the South Stack lighthouse and the RSPB reserve at Twr Elin.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
