The UK coastal town hailed as one of Europe’s ‘best hidden gems’

If you think you’ve explored everything the UK has to offer, think again, this hidden gem has just been named one of Europe’s very best.

Seaside towns are a huge part of British culture, and the country has no shortage of them.

From long stretches of untouched golden sand to towns with Victorian piers and retro funfairs, many of them feel like stepping back in time.

Of course, the most famous seaside resorts can get very crowded in summer, making them less relaxing than you might hope.

That’s why discovering a quieter, underrated destination can feel so refreshing, and one UK seaside town has now been recognised as one of Europe’s best-kept secrets.

Travel experts at HomeToGo have revealed a list of Europe’s most overlooked towns, cities, and villages that are well worth visiting, and the Welsh town of Beaumaris made it into the top 10.

The European Hidden Gem Index compared 50 destinations, ranking them on scenery, food options, accommodation costs, and even the weather.

Set on the Isle of Anglesey, recently named Britain’s best island by The Telegraph, Beaumaris scored an impressive 9.48 out of 10 for its scenery alone.

With its mix of medieval, Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian architecture, HomeToGo described Beaumaris as a must-visit “for the explorer who’s enchanted by rugged coastlines, medieval castles, and boat trips to wild islands.”

One of its biggest draws is Beaumaris Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built between 1295 and 1330, it remains unfinished but is still considered one of the finest examples of Edwardian castles in Wales.

Often called the greatest castle never built, it was the last and largest fortress commissioned by King Edward I, and it’s famous for its almost perfect symmetry.

Beyond the castle, Beaumaris sits on the shores of the Menai Strait, offering incredible views across the water and a relaxed seaside atmosphere.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
