With the rising cost of living, many families are choosing staycations over expensive trips abroad.
While sunny holidays overseas might sound tempting, the recent UK heatwave has proved you don’t need to leave the country to enjoy warm weather and golden beaches.
One small town in the north of England, often overlooked by holidaymakers, has just been named as having one of the best beaches in the UK.
This hidden gem, sitting proudly on Lancashire’s coast, is a traditional seaside resort that first became hugely popular back in the 1950s.

Although visitor numbers have dropped over the years, things are expected to change with the planned opening of the £100 million Eden Project Morecambe in winter 2028.
For those who prefer to avoid large crowds, Morecambe North beach has already been ranked in the Daily Telegraph’s list of Britain’s 20 Greatest Beaches, alongside two hidden gems nearby.
Looking out over the Irish Sea, Morecambe North offers a wide sandy stretch that’s perfect for family walks and picnics. Its long promenade is lined with classic seaside attractions, including ice cream stalls, arcades, and traditional fish and chip shops.
According to the Daily Telegraph, shifting sands and tidal patterns mean the sea doesn’t always come right up to shore. This makes it ideal for flying power kites and taking atmospheric photos, though it’s less suitable for swimming.

The paper added: "Morecambe is a different kettle of cockles, with the water coming right up to the promenade twice a day and then retreating far out again. This gives visitors plenty of space for other activities besides swimming."
Families can also enjoy art displays, puzzles, and games scattered around the seafront, while birdwatchers will be thrilled to spot gulls, starlings, and oystercatchers along the bay.
Standing proudly on the seafront is The Midland, a beautifully restored art deco hotel that has been a landmark since 1933.
The Grade II listed building is well known for its luxury afternoon teas and has even featured on screen, appearing in Laurence Olivier’s The Entertainer and the classic TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
