The amazing 3-mile UK road that vanishes beneath the sea twice a day

In Britain there is a road that disappears under the sea twice every single day. At first glance it looks like an ordinary stretch of tarmac.
The road runs for three miles and is one of the most unusual drives in the country. But when the tide turns, it vanishes in no time at all.
The water comes rushing in quickly, covering the road within minutes. One moment drivers can cross with ease, and the next it is completely gone.
Local people know exactly when it is safe, but visitors often get caught out, which is when problems begin. This road is the Lindisfarne Causeway, linking the Northumberland coast with Holy Island.
According to experts at Show Plates World, it is one of the most remarkable roads in Britain, but also one of the riskiest for those who ignore the tide times.
A spokesperson explained: “The Lindisfarne Causeway is unique in the UK and unlike any other drive you will find.”
They added: “Anyone planning to use it must check the official tide timetable before setting off. Do not trust sat-navs. The sea moves in very fast and once the water begins to cover the road, it is already too late.”
When the tide is out, the road opens up like a pathway to another world. It looks calm and inviting, stretching all the way across to the island.
But as the water returns, the crossing disappears in minutes. Those who leave it too late often find themselves stuck in the middle or forced to turn around.
Holy Island itself is full of history and charm. Many visitors come to see the ancient ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, the hilltop castle and the sweeping sandy beaches.
Others choose to follow the old pilgrim route, walking across the sands just as monks and travellers once did centuries ago.
The island also offers local food and drink. Highlights include freshly caught Lindisfarne oysters and a traditional honey mead made to a recipe that is hundreds of years old.
Yet the road remains part of the magic of visiting. Twice a day it disappears beneath the sea, leaving Holy Island completely cut off from the mainland.
The causeway is safe to cross for only around seven hours between each high tide, making timing an essential part of any trip.

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
