The UK has no shortage of pretty villages where people go for walks, fresh air and peaceful countryside views. Yet one special spot near the Yorkshire Dales offers something extra.
Visitors arrive not only for the scenery, but to see a group of spectacular waterfalls that were made famous by a major Hollywood film.
It feels calm and green, with woodland and open fields all around, but you can hear the rush of water before you even see it.
There are three waterfalls here, set one above the other, and they change in look and mood throughout the year.
The village is called Aysgarth, and it sits in Wensleydale in North Yorkshire. The waterfalls nearby are known as Aysgarth Falls.
The falls were chosen as a filming location for the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner.
One of the best remembered scenes, the sword fight between Robin Hood and Little John, was filmed in the river at this very spot.
Today, Aysgarth Falls is one of the most popular walking destinations in the Yorkshire Dales. Clear paths lead to the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls, with lots of great places to pause and take photos.
The waterfalls are created by the River Ure as it flows over wide layers of limestone rock.
Each part looks different. The Upper Falls are strong and powerful, the Middle Falls stretch out wide across the river, and the Lower Falls are quieter, with still pools and trees lining the banks.
There is also a visitor centre, a small café and two car parks close by. It is especially busy with families and walkers after heavy rain, when the waterfalls are at their most dramatic.
The village of Aysgarth itself is peaceful and surrounded by rolling countryside. It makes a lovely base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales or simply relaxing by the river.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
