The charming UK village so stunning it ‘feels more like a Greek island’

One lovely little fishing village is so stunning that people say it looks more like somewhere in Greece, thanks to its bright white cottages and clear blue water.
Unlike Cornwall’s busier holiday spots, it has stayed mostly under the radar, keeping a calmer, more peaceful atmosphere even in the height of summer.
Visitors will find small independent shops, cosy pubs and plenty of places to get fish and chips, all without the crowds you see at many seaside towns.
As you head into the village, craft shops and art stalls line the quiet road that winds down towards the harbour.
When you reach the water and look back up, you’ll spot white houses scattered across the green hillside.
Park Holidays compared the village to a Greek island, saying the sea turns a bright “Aegean shade of turquoise” on sunny days.
It explained: “With its whitewashed cottages and little boats drifting in the tiny harbour, Polperro feels more like a hidden Greek island than a village in Cornwall. Its narrow streets lead to cafés and shops that have a real Santorini feel,” reports Cornwall Live.
There is no train station in Polperro, so it takes a little more effort to reach, but people who do make the journey say it is well worth it.
One visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: “This is one of our favourite villages in Cornwall. It feels like stepping back in time.”
Another added: “It’s totally worth the trip, with quirky narrow lanes, cute old smugglers’ cottages, a working harbour with boat trips and loads of traditional Cornish pubs.”
Many artists have chosen Polperro as their inspiration, and travellers can buy local artwork in the village’s small galleries. Thanks to its history of smuggling in the late 1700s and early 1800s, it also has its own Smuggling Museum.
Polperro has a little shingle beach when the tide is low, but the lovely Talland Bay beach is just a mile away and can be reached on foot along the beautiful South West Coast Path.
