This is the train ride in the UK ranked as one of the world’s top attractions

A stunning railway trip in Wales has been named one of the best tourist experiences on the planet.

This railway in Ceredigion has earned a place among the top 10% of attractions worldwide in the 2025 Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Awards, which are decided purely by visitor ratings and reviews over the past year, reports Wales Online.

The scenic journey starts in Aberystwyth and carries passengers into the heart of the Cambrian Mountains, finishing at the famous Devil’s Bridge.

This well-known Welsh landmark features three bridges built on top of each other, standing high above the rushing Mynach and Rheidol rivers.

The railway has a long history too, running for 123 years since it first opened in 1902.

The line was originally built to help local communities and move goods like timber and lead, but it is now better known for its incredible views and unique experience, which appeals to visitors of all ages.

Even though the track is only around 12 miles long and takes about an hour to reach Devil’s Bridge, there is plenty to enjoy during the journey.

Once you arrive, you can grab a snack or a proper meal at the Hafod Hotel, which has outdoor seating that looks out over the valley.

Visitors can then choose between two walks: a short route that takes you underneath the bridges for a close-up look at the fast-flowing water, and a longer, tougher route that leads deep into the Rheidol gorge, where you can see the impressive 300-foot Mynach waterfalls.

The Travellers’ Choice Awards depend on verified reviews, and only a small number of attractions receive this level of praise each year.

“Being recognised by the people who travel with us is what means the most,” said Llyr ap Iolo, general manager of the Vale of Rheidol Railway.

“Whether it’s their first visit or their fiftieth, we aim to make the experience special every time. This award shows how hard our staff and volunteers work, and we’re delighted to share the honour with them.”

The Vale of Rheidol Railway has an excellent Tripadvisor score, earning 4.6 out of five stars from nearly 1,400 reviews.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
