As the leaves turn shades of gold and red, many people start searching for places that feel warm, cosy and full of autumn charm.
The Cotswolds are often seen as the perfect choice, with their picture-perfect villages, historic churches and rolling hills.
However, a new destination has just taken the crown as the cosiest place to visit this autumn, and it isn’t in the South West.
Jepson’s Motor Home Hire has revealed its list of the top 10 autumn destinations in the UK, and surprisingly, the Cotswolds didn’t make it to number one.
According to their findings, the Lake District is the ultimate spot for an autumn getaway.
Jepson’s Motor Home Hire explained: “When it comes to the best places to visit in the UK during autumn, the Lake District tops the list.
The lakes mirror the fiery colours of the trees, and the fells glow in shades of amber, orange and gold.
“Take a peaceful walk around Derwentwater or Grasmere, hire a boat, or climb Catbells for views that are perfect for your Instagram.
With fewer crowds in autumn, you can enjoy the scenery almost all to yourself.”
The Lake District National Park is one of Britain’s most loved destinations. Covering 912 square miles, it’s home to 16 lakes, 197 tarns and countless trails, making it a dream for nature lovers and outdoor explorers.
According to Visit Britain, the Lake District has also been a filming location for several blockbuster movies, including The Dambusters (1955), 28 Days Later (2002), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 (2023), and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy (2025).
Foodies will also love the region, which offers everything from cosy pubs and homely restaurants to fine dining experiences.
One standout is Cartmel’s famous three-Michelin-star restaurant, L’Enclume. And if it’s a drink you’re after, there’s no shortage of excellent local pubs to relax in after a day of exploring.
If the stunning scenery and delicious food aren’t enough, there’s still plenty more to do. One top attraction is the Theatre by the Lake, located just a short ten-minute walk from the centre of Keswick, offering the perfect end to a day spent in this breathtaking region.

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
