The peaceful valley filled with charming towns and villages where a dark presence hangs overhead

As we reach the end of August and the warm evenings start to fade, it’s normal to feel a bit down as summer comes to an end and autumn and winter appear on the horizon.

But if you live in a certain part of Wales, you’ll soon realise there is still loads to enjoy even when the temperatures fall and the beaches become quieter.

This place has been called the ‘Garden of Wales’ for years, and it’s easy to see the reason. The area is packed with greenery, beautiful views, rivers and the odd impressive castle.

No place shows off this mix of Welsh beauty quite like the Tywi Valley.

This lovely stretch of countryside rises gently on both sides of the River Tywi, which flows for around 75 miles from the Cambrian Mountains all the way to the sea at Carmarthen Bay, according to Wales Online.

The valley has hit the news recently thanks to a long cycling and walking trail being built through the landscape and next to the river, joining up the towns of Carmarthen and Llandeilo.

Costing more than £18m, mostly backed by the UK Government’s ‘Levelling Up’ fund, the route has already become a hit with locals and tourists.

The western section, running from Abergwili Museum at the edge of Carmarthen to the village of Nantgaredig four miles away, has been open since April.

Another part of the path between Dryslwyn and Gelli Aur, further along the valley, has also opened recently, and bridges that will cross the rivers were delivered last week ready to be fitted soon.

In the months ahead, as the whole trail opens, different areas of the Tywi Valley will be easier to reach than ever, giving people plenty of choices for great days out.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
