The seaside town that tourists forget about is a must visit hidden gem

This quiet town, tucked between two well-known Devon neighbours, manages to stay peaceful without all the big crowds.

Lots of tourists pass by as they head to these busier holiday spots, but locals say that being overlooked isn't such a bad thing!

Even though this hidden gem is close to bustling Sidmouth and charming Lyme Regis, it’s often forgotten. And while nearby Beer is famous for its beautiful views and lovely shops, Seaton stays in the shadows.

Victoria Moorey, who works at the Coastal Craft Collective, thinks Seaton is a hidden treasure. "People don’t stop here because they don’t even know we exist," she explains.

"Sidmouth’s well-known, Lyme is popular, but hardly anyone knows about Seaton sitting right in between them. We’re like a secret spot. All our businesses are independent, and there’s loads going on."

Talking about what makes Seaton special, she adds, "People say we're a tiny town, but that's our charm. We’re small, but we have a huge beach, a close-knit community, and big hearts."

According to Victoria, the fact that Seaton isn’t as famous as other seaside towns is actually a good thing.

She thinks the town could use more funding, but its low profile has stopped it from being taken over by holiday homeowners, which has helped keep the town’s economy strong all year round.

Victoria said, "Seaton is a working town that gets visitors. It’s quiet most of the time but gets busier in summer."

"We don’t shut down in the winter. We stay open all year. We also don’t have loads of second-homeowners, like many Devon towns, so it feels the same, no matter what time of year it is."

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
