This breathtaking coastal path is among Wales’ most scenic winter walks

From rugged coastlines and purple heather moors to sharp ridges, deep river valleys and thick pine woods, Wales offers an amazing mix of walking routes to explore.

This small country is perfect for walkers, with lots of short hikes and circular routes. Best of all, you do not need to walk for days to see incredible views.

Many routes can be done in a single day and suit different abilities. While summer is a popular time to walk, winter brings a quieter feel and a special kind of beauty.

One place I especially enjoy walking has also been named one of the most scenic winter walks in Wales.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park has been ranked as having some of the best winter walks in the country, according to new research.

The research was carried out by CEWE, a leading photo printing company in Europe, which looked at and ranked walking routes across the UK.

Each location was reviewed using star ratings, total reviews and winter themed words such as winter, cold, scenery and peaceful to find the most impressive landscapes.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park came out on top, with a 4.8 star rating, more than 292,000 Instagram hashtags, over 2,800 TikTok views and 11,262 reviews.

The park covers 240 square miles filled with natural beauty, and the famous Pembrokeshire Coast Path stretches for 186 miles along dramatic coastline.

Walkers can complete the full route or choose shorter sections and looped walks.

The National Park says there are more than 200 circular walks to enjoy, including half day routes, shorter walks and paths with easy access.

Well known walks include the St Davids Head circuit, the Bosherston Lily Ponds walk and the Dinas Island circular route. Other popular choices are the Porthgain to Abereiddi walk and the scenic loop between Saundersfoot and Tenby.

Take the path to St Govan’s Head to discover a hidden chapel tucked away on a windy and wild beach.

As you walk down to St Govan’s Chapel, you can still spot bell rock. Legend says that if you make a wish while standing in the rock gap, it will come true as long as you do not change your mind before turning back.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
